Mud Run!

Yesterday, Russ participated in a mud run in Columbia, SC. He and 4 other guys competed in a 4 mile long obstacle course in ALL mud. It was held at the Marine Corps Base and is a big event that goes on every year. This was the first year the Russ competed in it and it was certainly an experience! The kids and I went along to support Russ in the race and cheer him on. His team ended up doing really well and finished in about 52 minutes. There were many different obstacles for them to do as a group, but overall I think they just had fun getting to play in the mud! At the end, he was absolutely CAKED in mud all over his body!

The team before they started the race - notice how clean they are!

On your mark, get set, GO!

Russ is the one waving.

The mud drips off them...

Here's the group near the end of the race in nasty, muddy water!

Of course, while Russ was running his race, Caleb had to participate in the Polywag obstacle course for kids. He was so excited to get to play in the mud without anyone telling him not too. In fact, I was encouraging him to get as muddy as he could! He did a great job and really had a blast. The first time he went through the obstacle course he was really insecure about it. He took a long time getting the nerve to go through each part. Thankfully there were some really kind and patient teenage boys who did everything they could to help him out. I thought for sure he wouldn't do the course again because he got mud in his eyes and I had to come out to him and wipe his face off. However, after he finished he was ready to do it again! He ended up going through the obstacle course 3 different times. He was very brave and I was very proud of him. He was by far the youngest of the kids there!

Here he is waiting in line to start the course, anxious to get dirty!

He said the water was really cold!

Wading through the yucky water!

The finished product - any little boy's dream!

Kathryn enjoyed watching Caleb and playing on a little dirt hill herself.

She wasn't afraid to get dirty :)

Russ is the third person I've heard of doing this. One of our friends from church did it too and loved it. I didn't know they had that course for kids. Go Caleb! That is every little boy's dream! You were brave to let Kathryn play in that mud w/ a white shirt on!!! I hope you're feeling well.
